The LIFE Adapt Brdy project is achieving its goals thanks to volunteers. They actively participated in caring for the Brdy landscape during two events and learned more about how it works and the problems that threaten it.
The first event took place on April 26, 2025, as part of the Brdy Forest Battle, an unusual competition for draft horses. At the LIFE Adapt Brdy project stand, 37 visitors discussed current topics related to water retention in the landscape, forest care, and the impact of wildlife on forest regeneration. Participants were able to learn in detail about the recently completed revitalization of the Voložný potok spring and ask questions about specific forestry measures directly in the field.
The second volunteer event took place on June 14, 2025, near the village of Hořice, in the Stará hora area. A small but determined group led by Ing. Petr Macháček from VLS CR, Hořovice division, set to work providing practical assistance: they filled in an old drainage ditch and built a dam to help slow down the outflow of water from the spring and strengthen its retention capacity.
Volunteer days as part of the LIFE Adapt Brdy project are an opportunity not only to help nature, but also to discover interesting places in Brdy and learn more about how specific steps can be taken to strengthen the landscape's resilience to climate change.
