Recreational function of forests – past, present, and future at a seminar in Brdy

In November 2025, a professional seminar titled “Recreational Function of Forests – Past, Present and Future” was held at the Tři Trubky Hunting Lodge. The event, which was held as part of the LIFE Adapt Brdy project, focused on sharing experiences and examples of good practice in supporting the recreational function of forests and its development in the context of current forest management. 

 

During the morning session, presentations focused on close-to-nature management, the significance and development of the recreational function of forests, financing options, and legal aspects related to their use. Contributions were delivered by representatives of Vojenské lesy a statky ČR, s. p. (Military Forests and Estates of the Czech Republic, state enterprise), Hradec Králové Municipal Forests, Inc., Domažlice Municipal Forests, Ltd., the Forestry and Game management Research Institute, RI, the Czech Tourist Club, and attorney JUDr. Ing. Martin Flora, Dr. The discussions also addressed the role of tourist organisations, projects focused on environmental education, and the importance of managing recreational activities within forest areas

 

In the afternoon participants joined an excursion around the Tři Trubky lodge which showcased both the natural and historical features of the Brdy Highland. The route followed an educational trail along the Klabava River and illustrated practical examples of the interlinkage between recreation, nature conservation, and forest management. 

 

The seminar was organized by the Czech Forestry Society, z. s., with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic and Vojenské lesy a statky ČR, s. p. (Military Forests and Estates of the Czech Republic, state enterprise), in cooperation with the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague.
