Field training of the Hořovice Division foresters at Staatsbetrieb Sachsenforst in Saxony

The field training was prepared by Dr. Dirk-Roger Eisenhauer. His collaborators also contributed to the preparation: Sven Martens, Carolin Thomae and Andreas Samfaß.

The main objective of the field training in Saxony (Germany) was to familiarize the foresters of VLS ČR with the management of the Saxon State Forests. The foresters will apply the experience gained from this field training to their management in the conditions of the Brdy Highlands. For almost thirty years, the Saxon State Forests have been converting endangered spruce monocultures into species-diverse and stable stands. These new stands should be better able to adapt to climate change. This management also includes a conceptual approach to hunting, where hunting is a tool for silviculture. In Saxony, game populations are maintained at a level that allows the forests to regenerate without the need for protection against game damage.
