On 5-6 October 2023, a field training of foresters from the Hořovice Division took place in Brdy. The training was again under the expert supervision of Dr. Dirk-Roger Eisenhauer from the Saxon State Forests.
This training was a follow-up to the field training held in June this year in Saxony. The principles of the conversion of spruce monocultures into species-diverse and resilient stands were thus placed in the specific conditions of the Brda region by this training. Four demonstration plots were specifically selected for the training: Štítov, Horní muničák, Vosecká and Brdce.
In the Štítov demonstration plot, the main topic was the setting up of the correct division of stands by the secondary transport network (harvesting lines) as a basis for the management of species-diverse and stable stands.
In the Horní muničák demonstration plot, the main topic was underplanting of stands and preparation of existing stands for underplanting.
On the Vosecká demonstration plot, the issue of restoration of disturbed clearcuts and the issue of plots for the capture of game influence was addressed.
Outside the demonstration plots, a stop was made in two young forest stands, where the rich structure is supported by education. The first stand of beech fir plantations and a second stand of birch plantations nurtured above. The second stand was spruce from natural regeneration with a rich height structure that is further developed by sensitive pruning.
In the Brdce demonstration plot, the issue of past underplanting and secured spruce regeneration was addressed.
